"That is the most important thing," Frazier said. There's no doubt that Ponder has improved since this second campaign. Ponder's completion ratio increased by 54.3 to 62.1 while his quarterback rating increased by 70.1 from 70.1 to 81.2. Ponder's yards per attempt decreased to 6.37 and 6.08.

A deeper analysis of Ponder's performance shows that he's likely not to grow as an Madden NFL 23 quarterback. Ponder completed 124 passes through the lines of scrimmage, but he completed 79.8 percent of these. Ponder only attempted 483 passes throughout the season long, and 25 percent of them were placed on the line of play.

The majority of Ponder's passes were intercepted between 1 and 10 yards from the line of the line of scrimmage. He completed 210 passes in this range, and completed 66.2 percent of them, with a quarterback's rating of 89.6.

The numbers are lovely and dandy, but that's about when the numbers get pleasant. Ponder did not complete 45.5 percent of his passes made between 11-20 yards downfield, and was intercepted 6 times on 88 occasions in the 11-20 yard space. Ponder's quarterback's score on passes within that range was only 53.7.

Worse, Ponder was able to complete just four passes out of 21 throwing between 21-30 yardsjust 19 percent.Naturally, becoming an Madden NFL 23 football player doesn't come simple, and clearly the further downfield a quarterback throws, the worse his completion rates will be . However, Ponder's downfield woes should be reason to be worried.

Carson Palmer, the Madden NFL 23's 16th-rated player last season, attempted one hundred and 141 passes from 11-20 yards, and completed 48.2 percent -just three percent better than Ponder. Palmer however, tried almost twice as many passes in that range, and only had five interceptions (and he threw five touchdowns).

St. Louis Rams quarterback Sam Bradford finished the season as the 18th-rated player in the Madden NFL 23 and attempted 86 passes between 11-20 yards, which is two less than Ponder. Bradford did, however, complete 51.2 percent of his pass attempts over that distance, and also threw three touchdowns and three interceptions and he had a quarterback's madden 23 coins buy rating of 79.9.
